I got back out to the site GoldFever DanDan and I hit yesterday....Well I was not there long When I dug a very nice 1890 Indian Head...I figured that was a decent way to start the day!! Well I continued searching mostly along the same route we took yesterday hoping our haste would pay off and I would find something we missed! Well after digging 14-18 wheats I hit a cool pin. It looks gold plated with a small stone in the middle...Continuing along...Next find was some sort of clip thingy with a heart on it...Cool find.....My next signal shocked me half to death...I hit a solid signal but it was not showing a VDI number on my display....Well this kind of confused me....So I decided to dig...after getting down 8 inches and still nothing...I was about to call it quits on this hole..After rechecking the hole...Still nice loud signal....and still no number...Hmm....Well I dug about another half inch or so and my pinpointer yelped! Out pops a nice wedding band...A quick check and I notice 18K on the inner band...But it is kind of strange...It looks like an older band has been soldered onto it. The older band has some writing i can not fully make out...It is something like Repent Hearts Content..I can not make out the other word but it starts with a C...Looks like Canitde ??? Also is a date...1790 This is a cool find for me because i have not found any gold EVER with my Whites...Only my other detectors. My next find was in a hole someone dug yesterday....It was right next to the road and about 8 inches down also. I pull a tin box.. (not in the best shape.)Inside the tin box I hear a rattle...Hmm...Upon opening it I notice several buttons..A very old set of nail clippers....And 2 coins!!! Well nothing really cool but a cache none the less..The coins were a 1857 Flying Eagle penny...In very nice shape..(hard to tell from the pix) And the other is a German 10 Pfennig Not sure the date on it. Attached are pix of the buttons. If anyone knows anything about the buttons please let me know. My last find was a 1935 Merc...This was found also right next to a hole someone dug yesterday. Well here are some pix...The black button with the animal on it that is dated 1851 is made of rubber...Hence the name on the back GoodYear

Wow!, I would definitely call that a great cache find. That flying eagle cent would have been enough, but the other finds are great as well. I really like those old nail clippers, very cool...
Continued Good luck, & Happy hunting~

P.S.> I bet who ever didn't dig far enough down to hit that cache is going to be sorry they didn't, when, or if they ever find out...
I am not sure who it was...I had not been in this part of the property the day before.

Re: Cache found!!! ~~~GOLD!!~~~~SILVER!!~~~~LOTS OF PIX

how does rusty nail clippers and 2 coins constitute a cache ???
dont get me wrong all good finds but......and what about the tin box :-\
It was rusty nail clippers...2 coins....and 7 buttons. The tin box is in my junk pile. I did not bring it inside last night to take a pic. And although I thought about it I was so beat from 17 hours of detecting in a 48 hour period....I decided to leave that monster right in the junk pile. Sorry.

Oh....BTW...I see no reference to how many items must be hidden together to create a cache. So I would conclude that a tin box with all of the for mentioned items in it was indeed to be considered a cache... ;) ;D
Main Entry: cache
Pronunciation: 'kash
Function: noun
Etymology: French, from cacher to press, hide, from Vulgar Latin *coacticare to press together, from Latin coactare to compel, frequentative of cogere to compel -- more at COGENT
1 a : a hiding place especially for concealing and preserving provisions or implements b : a secure place of storage
2 : something hidden or stored in a cache

Sorry Outraged,

have to agree with DeKalb.

If something is lost, dropped, misplaced, thrown out,
and I find it, I would not consider it a cache.

I would ask myself if anyone would hide,
"nail clippers...2 coins....and 7 buttons".

Think it was just a tin box that someone kept
things in.

However if you think someone buried that tin box, with
those items, it is a cache, so be it. ;D

Very nice find. Thanks for posting.

have a good un................

I am unsure if anyone buried it or if it was lost. I guess how can you ever really tell....If Dr. Emmett Brown ever lets me borrow his Delorean I will shoot back there and place a camera on this site to monitor what infact happened. If not I will continue to assume a child buried this here as his own personal cache of goodies. I was very close to a tree and quite deep. This is why I made the assumption that is was placed there. Well what ever you want to call it I am just happy to have found it. Cache or not..... :P :-\

Re: Cache found!!! ~~~GOLD!!~~~~SILVER!!~~~~LOTS OF PIX

I took the ring to the local jeweler/coin shop (did not even know it was a mile from my house) and he told me that the bigger ring is from the early 1900's and the bottom ring says 1790. He could not make out the word either however he seemed sure it was from that time period. Both are 18k and it weighs in at 8.4 grams. Not the most valuable but very cool. Thanks for all the great replies...Oh he also said the Flying eagle penny was in EF condition. I also brought the 1917 standing lib quarter i found...He offered me 80 dollars for it. And the 1876 S seated dime...VF and he offered me 65. And the 1876 CC seated dime...He was thrilled to see the condition....He said if not for the black on the coin it could be AU.....He offered me 75 for that..And last was the 1805 LG penny..He said that it would be considered EF and made me an offer....I did not sell it though. Thanks again for all the replies!!

One of the better hunts I have seen in awhile, a big congrats and awesome finds!!! In Europe, it is common to see a spouse/widow take a wedding ring of their diseased husband and have it attached to her wedding ring. One of your rings looks much larger than the other, they may both be from 1790. I wonder how the jeweler justified the other ring being from the 1900s? Could also be a family heirloom of sort. Having found a German coin nearby as well, could infer it was of a German/European heritage site. I have no idea on the buttons but, they resemble coat of arms from Europe. You have a bit of a mystery on your hands, another interesting thing about metal detecting! Have fun solving it, the key will probably be with IDing the buttons or a few. Back marks of buttons and shanks are very helpful when IDing, you might post those as well. HH and nice post, Mike

ok that works

Kevin,

Can't read it very well, but do the nail clippers say something like: "GEM JR." and "H.C. COOK CO., Ansonia, Ct, U.S.A." ??? If so, I have a pair just like your find. When my dad died, they were in his belongings. Have you been able to get a date on them?

From what I have seen they are from 1910ish. There were a few pairs sold on ebay.....Sweet clippers.

Thanks on the date of the clippers. I like the way the way the top spring hinge thing just slides under the little notch. My dad ALWAYS kept a pair of fingernail clippers in a little coin purse that he carried with him. When he passed away, I found these clippers in his belongings.

WTG!! Great finds........especially those clippers.

Super bunch of finds, outraged!

I especially like the button of the guy with the sword.

Cool ring(s) too!

Nice post and pics.

Thanks for sharing.

But it is kind of strange...It looks like an older band has been soldered onto it.

Nice finds! Could a woman's ring be joined to a mans? (after the loss of a spouse ---just wondering if this may have been an old custom). HH Chris.

nice finds. we all hope for a day's haul like that. it is a once-in-a-lifetime shot there!!

it appears as though a man's band is soldered to a woman's band. maybe a widow
s or widower's homemade keepsake, which would explain why one looks older than the other. maybe the one who lived is the one with the oldest looking band. just my take on it.

scrape that place good!!
