This flatware came from a C.1790s plantation site in eastern Va.
Any help on the hallmark would be appreciated.

Very interesting! Does it say Chounering? I can't quite make it out. Also, what's its size?
 

That is pretty cool. The motif for that style of mark is that of 1835-1885, typically used by silversmiths in the new york city area. The V in the center diamond is most likely the name of the silversmith....and to be honest it could be a hard one to find as there were a lot of silversmiths who started up and then floundered in the city. I'll continue to try to find them but usually if i cant find them within an hour...I never do. Heres a link to a similar mark to show you what I mean....I know of at least a couple dozen companies that use that motif.
