I think I used to see them being played with. Now what was the name of that game? Oh yeah I think it was called "checkers". But I may be wrong.

Good picture, but be careful with shadows. I find them at the beach all the time when Im not using discrimination. Very aggravating. They must be worthless because people just throw them away. Funny they usually have a bottle in one hand while tossing one of these with the other. Im still researching... :icon_scratch: :icon_study: I suggest electrolysis or a careful cleaning with a toothpick.

You had to open it with a cap opener.

Back in my day - if you didn't have a church key, you used the corner of your table, or your counter - or, if you were near your car -- you could tip it just right and "pop" it off on your bumper. (of course, bumpers were made of metal then)

Oh yes--back in the old days--long before the now famous-TABS,Beer, Pop,etc. all had to be opened with a "ChurchKey". I had one friend who use to open bottles with his teeth :icon_scratch: But don't ever try that at home.Idig

I very often find those when I am trying to totally clean out an old park site. I once found 6 of those mixed in with a 1923 peace dollar at 13 inches deep  So I would say that they are the harbinger of good things to be found. Keep digging those type of signals. The really old ones had a "Lead Foil" insert on top of cork, the foil was discontinued when it was found out that death was not caused from contents in the bottle, but by "lead" leaching into liquid inside the bottle's contaminated fluid.........NGE

I find these by the hundred. It is made of metal and 30mm. So my questions are. What is it? Is it valuable? How was it used? BTW Since I know nothing of taking pictures I used a white background just so you can focus on the item.

A bottle cap in that condition is not worth a cent. Sorry

I got a chip on one of my teeth from opening bottle topsabout 32 years ago (1977) -- after that i took to using the edge of tables and a sharp smack instead and hell I'm only 48 years old. ;D
