Well Folks, it was a beautiful sunny 65 degree day here in NC, so I went back to the early 1900โ€™s house that Iโ€™ve been pecking away at. I think this was my 5[SUP]th[/SUP] or 6[SUP]th[/SUP] visit? :icon_scratch: The ground in some areas was still frozen, so those targets had me standing on my shovel and wiggling back and forth like it was a pogo stick to get to them. NOT pretty sight. :tongue3:

One of my very first signals was a large round green patina item which I was hoping was finally a Large Cent. Again, it was not to be. It turned out to be an Excelsior Shoe medallion dated July, 1910. Sorry, I forgot to take a shot of the other side. I now have it soaking in olive oil to try to get rid of the stubborn crud. Hot peroxide didnโ€™t work.

My other notable finds were:

*(4) Four General Service Eagle buttons with shanks. Two 30mm coat size and two cuffs.
โ€œCity Button Works, NYโ€ back marks. All were found in a 3โ€™ diameter area.

*Seagramโ€™s medallion โ€“ โ€œ80 years of Leadershipโ€ on the front.
Since Seagramโ€™s was founded in 1857, I figure this piece was made in about 1937.

*1906 Indian Head penny

* Louisiana โ€œ5 โ€“ Luxury Taxโ€ token
This will be BuckleBoy and Digger Girl's wedding gift. :laughing7:

*Misc: Harmonica reeds, Keys, Straightening comb, Large buckle, 1976 Vaccine tag, Cosmetic compact piece w/design.

Not a bad day at all.

***Oh yeah, I almost forgot to mention. I made it on the front cover of the current MARCH issue of Western and Eastern Treasures magazine, so if you need something to scare the critters away, pick up a copy. Quindy and myself both have stories in this issue for your bathroom reading pleasure. :tongue3: ***

Thanks for l@@king,
MM

Hey MM, A big congrats on the magazine. Interesting site you've got there! You should come to Maine since all I've found lately are LCs. Didn't anyone lose any silver in this state :-)

Nice assortment of finds and congrats on the Magazine! Happy Hunting.

LOL. I'd be happy with LC's over wheats and IH's for sure Abe. Unless of course it were an 1877 IH. :laughing7:
I bet silver those silver coins back could purchase quite a bit.
Thanks for l@@king Buddy.

P.S. Look at the bright side. You also have cheap lobster up there.

Thanks DD. I plan on making a relic display with all the things I dug at this place. It should be a full one.

Nice assortment of relics.
2'ed to CW sites ,(camp, skirmish ,etc,)
Those old Home sites are my favorite sites to hunt.
I used to get mad when I dug a Great Seal button , But now I've come to admire them ,as they usually come
up in good condition & have great patinas .

Also U got any Idea when the key's of the type you have pictured were in use?
Again Nice Finds

Thanks Davers. I had the same feeling about the Great Seal buttons too. I guess we get spoiled digging the older eagle buttons. They do come out of the ground in great condition. I have some very nice gold gilt ones that I've dug in the past.
I have no idea on the keys, but I must have dug a good 15 so far at this place so far.
I found out yesterday that the owner (in NY) doesn't want ANY of the relics I've dug. She had no interest at all. :dontknow: Oh well, I'm glad to have them.
Thanks for looking,
Doug

I actually have free lobster . Smart people in my area become friends with at least one lobsterman :-)! Best lobster in the world my man. If you ever get up this way I will make sure you get hooked up. That's if you'd hang out with me now that you're a big superstar gracing the covers of magazines! Ha ha :-)

Nice assortment of finds, and congrats on making the cover of W&E!

Thanks Bill. I need to get a CW relic fix soon before I go nuts. Been over a year since I've hit any of my old spots.

Thanks Judi. Very much appreciated. My daughter even asked for a copy. I couldn't believe it. She must want something? :laughing7:
Have a great week,
Doug

Great going on all those finds, MM! Love the Seagram's and the shoe medallion's! I'm almost positive that BB and DG will be thrilled to be gifted with that luxury token too! :laughing7:
Amazing all the relics in that one place. Maybe no one has detected anything in your town before you? And all those places to hunt are just waiting for you! woop!
Nana ;)
oh...and congrats on making the cover! :)

Thanks Naners. I thought of you when I dug that tax token. I know you love them. :tongue3: This has been my best yard so far since I moved over to this area of NC. I wish the finds were a lot older, but I need to seek out older properties for that of course. Like the plantation we all hunted that time. I'm trying to gain permission to another spot down the road right now. It was a house that was used as a school for some time. The owners live out of town so I'm using snail mail to contact them.
Thanks for visiting,
DUHg
