button with the word MARCH at the top

I found this today and at the site im currently digging , it looks to have a eagle at the bottom and the word MARCH at the top any help is greatly apprecciated , and thank you to all who have written me on my last post ,im still looking for more info .But thank you for all your help .

Before I get deep into research.... how do you know it's a button?

What does the back look like?

What kind of shank does it have?

Also - last question... is it brass?
