Hi all, today a bunch of friends went out to an old homestead... we found this two piece button without the shank. It has a steam engine on the front but the back is to corroded to see any mark. Its 1 inch in diameter. Year and what is it please?

That's a pretty cool find. It can go back to the mid to late 1800s. It is off of coveralls like the train engineer wore. Think about the white and black stripped coveralls they wore. Those would be on them.

Agree - railroad uniform button - might be from a conductor's jacket.
