I dug this up today from under about 8" of hard packed dirt. It was very near a location where I dug up two civil war bullets.
It measures 9/16" diameter and is 3/64" thick. It has a 9/64" tall, 7/32" wide stub on the back.
It definitely has some writing/design on the front, with possibly a "25" towards the center, and some type of concentric rings around the perimeter.
It is probably nothing, but it was something.

What metal is it made of and what state was it found in? I can venture a guess with that info. You have a clearer pic of the front and are there any holes going thru the stud part?

No idea what type of metal. Found in Virginia, very close to the Sailor's Creek Battlefield. It appears to be a solid post on the back side. Here's another view of the front, though not much better.
