I've spent the last hour looking for vintage tool companies that start with the letter "E." Then I thought what common household items were made of brass around the turn of the century (plus a decade or two) that were owned by all regardless of economics, and I came up with oil lanterns. Could our E buttons be a variant of a wick turner or part of the cap that fit over the kerosene reservoir? The logo for the Eagle Oil Lamp Company is the same font as our E.

Maddening, isn't it Breezie? It's amazing the variety places these have been found. I must say, I like the path you're on, it's extremely promising!
