You will have to forgive me for so many post this week. I have so many items over the last year that i have not posted. I had to force myself from the forum a year ago because i could not get my work done at home or work. I got into a year long project at work and just had to stay away. Found it very hard at first because of that doorway to such a kindred spirit with those that share the hobby and the wealth of information and knowledge. Hope i can now control myself. Sorry I Digress.

Got this button for a buck awhile back. Its backmark is FIRMIN & SONS LD LONDON. So i know a close age, but what i cant find is who or what it relates to. Military, Military School a Company. ??? It is quite heavy for a button. It had a two inch pin/wire for a hat or lapel, not sure if from mfg. or someone glued it on.Looks like shank was broken off to attach pin.

Don't worry about too many posts :) It's all good - and gives us who ALSO can't stay off the computer and treasurenet something to do!

Is there any chance we can see the front of it any better? A closer picture?

How about a sharp, large closeuo of the front of the button? I'm fairly sure that this is a uniform button from a steamship line, but can't see the details of the center of the flag clearly enough to identify it further. For example, here's a William Thompson & Company - shipping line button, just to give you an idea why I'm thinking along those lines:

Thanks, Ben!

Doesn't seem to match any of the shipping lines buttons in the references I have on hand, including Van Court's Transportation & Uniform Buttons, Vol. III - Maritime & Aviation, but the rope border and rippled flag are classic design elements of many such buttons.
