Hello all, I found these 2 buttons complete with backs in 1 hole that I detected in northern Alberta Canada. Almost seems that someone just took them off dropped them and moved on. The area is rich in fur trade, gold rush trail, and other westward migrants in the late 1800s and early 1900s. Any help would be much appreciated and hh.

I think the problems occur after editting. But I would think you should be able to edit a misspelling without losing any attachments.

Here's a couple new photos I don't think they are much better, but maybe someone can see enough detail to help id. The problem is that they are so small. I might be able to get a friend to help. She has alot more expierience with photography.

Cool buttons... I have found over 400 metal work buttons from a 1912 logging camp...I have noticed that all the buttons were studded or snap types. I did not find a single wobble shank button. I haven't found any snap type buttons with that kind of basket type back, my guess would be turn of the century snaps and one of the first types out there...image.jpg

Nice collection Highnam, the area that I found the buttons was an old steamboat landing dating from the 1890s to 1914 when the railway was put in on the opposite side of the river and ended the steamboat era. What was odd is that all 4 pieces came out of the same hole. I will continue researching the buttons, I found a site that could possibly id them for a small fee.

The find is neat but I doubt the snaps have any monetary value and the eagle is most likely a generic fashion design. I wouldnt pay to have them IDed. What site is doing that?

BCH, the site is the British button society. The link is http.//www.chezfred.org.uk/bbs//Buttonidentification/index.htm I will probably send the photos to them and pay the fee just to satisfy my curiosity. I hope the link works for you and other members.

Most of the smaller sized snap buttons I found came from suspenders... I think they also used the smaller buttons for pocket closures with snap buttons too...good luck with your ID!image.jpg
