The script I button you found was used for many years. They were still being used thoughout the 1820's, 1830's, and even into the 1840's. It's a general service infantry button, and yes, made out of pewter. The other button we refer to as a fancy button. Usually when you are detecting a site with military buttons, you will find many different types of "fancy" buttons. They date to the same time period. They are usually made of brass or bronze.
