I’m not sure about the age of this button, the shank doesn’t look very old to us and no baxkmarks I can see but I like the pattern of it. Some sort of civilian button maybe? Hope everyone is finding a lot of goodies,we haven’t been out much this year. I can’t tell what the letters are, first one is a J though.

Sure thing, darlin', said the old Southern geezer, with a respectful bow to her and her husband. Sorry to have to say, your button is definitely a modernday "Fashion" button, showing a civilian-usage imitation of the French National Seal. More than just one or two have turned up here for ID during the past several years. Even without those previous identifications (see the photos below), two major clues about your button are:
1- it shows remnannts of black-enamel background around the emblem (see the black-enamel on other Fashion buttons among the photos below).
2 - use of an iron/steel back and loop.

Me, I was brought up to respect all women... especially my mother when she was holding a wooden spoon and was ready to smack me with it if I didn't smarten up! :laughing7:

Sounds like TheCannonballGuy 'hit the nail on the head', or in your case the button, with his analogy of your find CG.

Heh! Wooden spoon!

Leather strop was bad enough but my all time best showing was from a water sprout from a peach tree! Medieval, darned medieval! Made us
better folks I suppose!
