Thank you much Red CoatNeat button. I'm sure it will be "Wadhams & Co" of Connecticut. They produced a range of buttons with various animals on them which are loosely termed "sporting buttons".
The Wadhams company underwent several name changes but operated as "Wadhams & Co" between 1847-1849.
I can't read the other part of the wording but, usually, it will say "SUPERFINE" and I think that's the case here.
This button came up before and created a little controversy about what animal this is. The Big Book of Buttons calls it a "Guanaco."
