Hello all.

I hope someone here can help as I'm finding it very difficult to get an answer to my question (not much knowledge on this subject in the UK).

I have nine of these buttons which came off an old 'West Point' cadet jacket/coat. The other thirty-one are plain backed with no markings.
The buttons measure about 25mm in total length and are about 18mm across.

Any help with age and if they would be of any interest to a collector would be most welcome.

Many thanks in advance,

Chris.

"Waterbury Button Co." backmark was used from 1849 - 1965.

IMO yours looks closer to 1965.

Thanks DCMatt.

Since posting I have been doing a little more searching and came across this quote from a military button site "This button mark is what is called a rmdc (raised mark in a depressed channel) type. This style of marking was rarely used after the Civil War and can generally be accepted as an indication that the button is Civil War period or earlier".

So my confusion remains.

Chris.
