I jus posted back of it it hooks onthe top almost as if to rest on watever its around

Wasn't tying to put you down Ryan. Just what it look like to me. Lord knows I've used enough shovels in my life!
 

I read that the few soldiers who tried bullet proof vests tossed them into the ditch very quickly because of the added weight while marching. They were definitely available during the early part of the Civil War. Gary

Well I go with the shovel idea also, however it is well known at the beginning of the Civil War some of the soldiers tried a similar looking "armor". It wouldn't stop a minie ball btw.

In part that's what T-Net is for. If you don't know, you don't know. Lot's of good guys here with lot's of good information.....as far as the back with the curved edge? it's what you would push down on with your foot, so as not to cut into your boot. I've used to many pointed and square shovels over the years...…..
