Found this bullet in Western Maryland at site of Civil War battle.
It has solid base and raised ring.
It measures as follows;
D-.511
L-.895
22 grams=339.512 grains
Is this a Pope type for false muzzle rifle?
#59 in McKee book
I don't have the McKee book But I do have the Thomas Dean 4 volume set and the closest I could find in them was a .50 caliber Smith carbine. What measurements does McKee give? Here's a link to Shiloh Relics. https://www.shilohrelics.com/cgi-bin/display_Item.asp?99480
Can you post a picture of the McKee #59 bullet? I even have the small Handbook of Civil War Bullets and Cartridges by James E and Dean S, Thomas that has a cross reference to M&M in the back it has F/C for M&Ms #59. That means fired or carved and not listed in this book. I am just curious what Mason And McKee shows.
Thanks for the pictures. I have to say that I don't see a match between your bullet and McKees #59. Other than the measurements the bullets do not resemble each other. But, that is just my uneducated opinion.
