Okay, should I polish it, and make it shine again or keep the patina on it?
 

Nice piece. I've seen them come from 18th century sites too.

Lots of debate when they are from exactly. I think they were used for a pretty long time. I've found them at sites from the late 1700's to the early 1900s.
 

I place these in the mid 19th C, some argue otherwise, I would be happy with early 19th C but 18th C I don't think.
 

Thanks everyone. The house that it was found behind is a cobblestone house that dates back to 1830.
