Originally posted this in the today's finds as royal navy buckle but was pointed out that there is no evidence of it in any navy... And old a few examples have been found around the world. I seem to have found a very good condition
One and I can make
Out some letters on the anchor cross bar.. Think it ends in RN which I thought was royal navy.. However I actually think the first letters are IN which would make it IRNI which is found on the crucifix... Would this make this item a religious item for a sailor in the past? Anyone able to shed some light on it? Would love to crack this one :) thanks guys!!!

Seen these before, owned 2 or 3, and never seen any evidence they were a military issued item. Could be associated somehow, or maybe something to have to do with shipping. It really reminds me of a flat anchor button I see all the time which is similar in design and I have never seen the ID for.

Thinking a little more, my friend Ironhorse found something similar here and I think he might have had some info. on it, but not sure if it was solid reference material, or just one guy's opinion. Regardless, it's still a cool find, but you will dig better!

I forgot too ask if you know the history of the property you found this? that could help ID it.

It was found at an old fort/castle I found an 1825 royal navy button there along with musket balls... And a coin dating 1680 so it's got a lot of different eras in there.

With the history you have around you anything can pop up, at anytime, anywhere.

Yes... I really an spoiled for choice. I can decide which type of sites I'd like to detect each time.
