✅ SOLVED Buckle...Shoe?...Age?

Hello all,

I found this buckle on an old farm but cannot find a similar style one to identify it. I am guessing it is a shoe buckle, but cannot be sure. Any thoughts of purpose and age? Thank you.

Oh...and this big circular piece with a broken piece was at the same location. No clue what this is.

Your buckle is likely a knee buckle, used to hold breeches cuff around the knee in the 1700's.

The round object looks like a horse bridal rosette. I don't know for sure age on it but probably mid-1800's or before.

Many thanks! The front of the possible rosette was totally plain and no evidence of anything being attached to it. Here is the other side...

I have been trying to find the history of knee buckles and photos/drawings/depictions of their actual use but it is hard to find. I want to display it at a local town celebration.

Very nice knee buckle. Rest assured that by 1820 (probably more like 1800), no one was wearing knee buckles anymore.
