🔎 UNIDENTIFIED Buckle or Sash, Help ID

Found in 2020, still looking to ID this item.
Found by a friend of mine in west/central WV on the Ohio River Valley.

You can judge size relative to hand in picture that is holding item.

The cap is known as a phrygian cap. They originated in ancient Turkey, were used to identify “freed slaves” in Roman times and were used as a symbol of the French Revolution.
(Smurfs wear them too!). I can’t offer much else, but I’m very familiar with the cap. I believe Mercury and/or Hermes wore one as well.

First thing I thought of was U. S. Military Academy at West Point, But their helmet has no head in it. Same kind of thing though.

It's not a Phrygian cap, a Roman Scutum, nor a US military item. It's a Corinthian helmet, commonly seen on generic classical Greek depictions and those of Ancient Greek notables, especially Athena (like this one, although it doesn't have crest plumes):

It's common enough imagery on all kinds of more modern ornamentations (more modern than ancient Greece).
