How rare would you say a counterfeit of that coin is ? Never dug a counterfeit beforeI don't trust VDI for starters, but it may still have some Silver just not the right amount. It has a kind of pewter/tin look to it.
There are people who Specialize in these, but I'm not one of them. We have seen a few Seated Counterfeits posted on Tnet but not many & most I think were lower denominations & this is the first Half I remember, so thats puts it into perspective. How rare would you say a counterfeit of that coin is ? I contacted a gentleman who is compiling a database on counterfeit Seated coins and seems to be very knowledgeable. He confirmed your suspicion. He has only documented 2 other counterfeit seated half dollars . Ty for the point in the right directionThere are people who Specialize in these, but I'm not one of them. Ive heard of them being sewn into clothes to prevent loss , or being used as jewelryI notice there have been a number of older coins with a hole in them...one thought I read was that valuable coins had a string put through them to prevent its owner from losing it...
Any thoughts?
Cool, thought it was pretty rare & if the guy with the database only has 2, then that has to be good news - CONGRATS.I contacted a gentleman who is compiling a database on counterfeit Seated coins and seems to be very knowledgeable.
