Okay thank you for posting it. I might have missed it but how did you come about it? It seems obvious that it wasn't a metal detecting find but I've been wrong before.

If I was going to purchase the badge as a collector I would ponder this:

As my mind thinks anyone interested in fire department memorabilia back when the manufacturer was still producing badges could have ordered it. And now decades latter we are trying to find information that doesn't have a documented history. So without a trail to verify the fire company the badge could be an authentic novelty badge designed by request from a company that specialized in Masonic badges (agged silver). That is all, very nice badge none the less, CoNgRaTs :).

It was picked up at an estate sale and if you're referring to this ad ImageUploadedByTreasureNet.com1447779783.121160.jpg for novelty badges by request if I am reading it right it is saying that they will make a piece of jewelry of the design of your badge not an actual badge correct me if I'm wrong

Maybe the estate that it came from has the information on the Fire Company? What would be the description at acution?

I think the manufacture was diverse, the proof in in their advertisements, and they had a diverse clientele. It could have been ordered by the fire company, a fireman, church or theater usher, conductor, Mason, etc. No way to narrow it down until your question is answeted about the fire company. I consider a badge as an adornment of jewelry and power, or like a brooch.

I notice that I couldn't find the shape of your shield comparing it with other badges. Here's the complete add from page 1:

CG Braxmar was the premier badge maker for FDNY badges for many years. Yes, you could have custom jewelry and badges made, this wasn't uncommon. I might add that certain unauthorized, commissioned (special order) badges are of high interest to collectors.
Here's a reprint catalog from 1912 that focuses on Badges as their specialty, they had dozens if not hundreds of designs for badges. -
