Bronze rosette found on Minnie's Island

A rosette found at a depth of 18 inches on an island in the Potomac River above the fall line. It appears gilded but not sure. The back is flat and there are no perforations. About the size of a nickel.

It is too small to be a bridle rosette. I think it is an appliqué of some sort.
