We all come home with the broken artifacts and flakes. I had a glass jar in my office that I have been staring at for some time wondering what I missed now that I have learned about diffrent tools and thought tonight I might take a look at it. The jar has been full for years. I spread it out and dug into it. Here is my hunt from the house. I found some cool thumb scrapers I did not know I had. It was fun but I sure made a mess. There are advantages to being single I guess. :laughing7:
Was hard getting a full picture of everything in this jar I walked down the table snapping pictures. Maybe next week I will hunt my buckets of flakes and coolers of broken pottery.
Feel free to show the rocks you bring home. It has helped someone like me learn .

Happy Huntin wherever you hunt !!!!

I don't have any pictures of the brokes I have found over the years, but I did do the same thing you did with my boxes of broken pieces. Some of these boxes I hadn't look at for many years and I found all kinds of Scrapers, Hafted Scrapers, Flake Tools, and even a few points. It never hurts to go back through your old boxes as you learn more about the different types of artifacts.

Great thread idea Richard. I always find it interesting to see the damaged and unusual pieces carry back home. You can learn alot by what people are finding and what they may run into one day.

That's many miles and hours of walking on that table, I see some possible whole tools and several early pieces too I believe. Nice looking materials and pictures too. Good show!

Here's a few pictures I took of my broke containers, alot of broken points, tools, cores, etc. Like you and SRV, there are also lots of complete tools like scrapers, flake tools, uniface tools, etc. When I have more time I'll pull out some other pieces from these containers to show in this thread.

P.S. As soon as I figure out any DISadvantages to being single, I'll let you know...might be awhile though, lol.

You guys are as bad as me !!! I tell ya if you are not bringing home the brokes you are not hunting very hard.
We stopped and hunted a field today on the way home I have hunted for many years.
The difference is what I now know about this field and the way I see things from what I have learned here in t-net artifacts from you guys and gals.
I used to not be able to tell you this but now,,,
The field is the quarry site basically. All the cores and chert come out of the dry creek that feeds the big creek.
All materials are local and I mean right beside you. There are broken spalls or cores and chunks of chert everywhere that they would knock off the outsides to see the inside and if they did not like it they threw it down.
There are tons of this stuff everywhere. They worked almost everything there to some degree. Its was an early archaic site and then uninhabited for thousands of years until the Mississippian dudes showed up and stayed there just a little while to hunt. All this I can tell by the brokes and flake debri and lack of pottery.
Its a new field new game. Still a lot to learn though.
Thanks!!!

Dug all these blades from one spot, high up on an adena site overlooking "The Raccoon" I only found three full cache blades from that spot, but there were other points and tools I found there over a few years time. A cache ? I dunno, seemed like it, they all came from an area 40x40 the overall size of the site was about a half acre.

Ok now that is some serious brokes of all the same thing. It was common for the Adenas to be killed or burned and fire popped. There have been large caches dug in Tn and all were broken on purpose. I think you were lucky enough to have found such a site.
Congratulations sir !

I have never found the other half. I know people do though. You and your family always find some good stuff. I like those paleo bases you have there :icon_sunny:

tn, your paleo pieces do you keep in a jar as well? just curious

Chong
I had a couple dalton and Beaver lake looking pieces in there. So much I think of what we consider paleo here was actually made by all cultures. Many unifacial tools made every day by every culture. I do not find the Folsums and distinct Paleo bases like you Chong. I have seen much woodland that would pass for paleo. The clovis point I found may have even been worked by a later culture. Do not get me wrong we have a very high concentration of Paleo here but until I find nothing but solid paleo in multiple pieces will I be satisfied.
I think I am rambling lol.

lol, no tn your not.

i hope you pulled your beaver lakes n daltons out.
i agree with you, but at the same time i have seen a few examples over here what i would figure paleo be "pottery era" .

what drives me crazy from your area is the triangles, those auriLiCaTe bases "37 " would throw me off.
my friend and i just had a female dog fight as why there are less folsum material on the east on more in the SW. tell tale signs is the key.
your clovis is a beautiful piece, and with all of your varieties i would too be unsure, beautiful and it deserves a frame of its own no doubt.
man, just suck it up and migrate to the desert ;)
it makes life a .........................1 % eaiser

:occasion14: yep the aurticulated bases throw a ratchet into our materials. But you have to admitt early man probably landed in Tennessee first and them migrated across the united states spreading his points everywhere and came to Texas to fight in some of your battles to make all your exotic forms then back over and crossed that silly land bridge to those other continents.
Cheers! :occasion14:
I just posted on your voting post : )
