Hit a field near an old foundation from the 1800's and found a 1803 LC plus this token. There is a ship on the front and what appears to be 1815? for a date on the rev. and you can read that it is a token. Anyone know what kind of token this is? Thanks!!!! I've posted pics of them as found and after I cleaned them up a little.

Colonial Canadian (maybe Prince Edward Island) trade copper. Probably says something like "Ships Colonies Commerce."

Correction: See post "Reply #4" below.

Ships, Colonies & Commerce -- one of the tokens most readily recognized as Canadian, the legend reflects a remark made by Napoleon about the basis of the British empire’s strength. Different varieties (over 25) were struck by Halliday, Heaton, and others. There is a variety that shows an American flag on the ship; it was struck by the New York mint of Wright & Bale.

Okay, MD... here we go.

"Seated Justice" halfpenny token issued for circulation in Lower Canada.

Does NOT have the "Ships Colonies Commerce" legend.

Design derived from a token designed by Thomas Halladay.

Struck by Sir Edward Thomas for the firm of Shaw, Jobson & Co. in Roscoe Mills, Sheffield, England.
