SS Thanks, is there any way to clean it up a bit more to possibly see a date? Perhaps you may know the year of ciruclation this coin.

Thank You.

Dump halfpennies were made in 1717 and 1718.

Much easier in many cases if you add a pic of the obverse.

It's Irish, a George I Hibernia halfpenny (or farthing). The halfpenny is Circa. 1722-1724. (most common date is 1723)

Not sure if it will clean to reveal a date, hard to tell from a picture what condition the coin is in, Iron Patch mite chime in and give you a little advice, perhaps a peroxide bath.
Revealing the date would help, if the date is below Britannia, and at 25mm then a dump issue 1717-1718... 1719-1724 half pennies were increased in diameter to 26mm-29mm.

There's nothing to clean, it's down to the surface metal. (Definitely Irish Hibernia)

Thank You guys your help is greatly appreciated, I now have an even greater respect for my coin, knowing it was once in the hands of someone nearly 300yrs ago. :icon_thumright:
