Not sure, I think it might hold up for tombac or pewter. I am pretty sure I have seen early lead button molds.

Well there you go. Might not confirm it but at least doesn't rule it out, so you're left with deciding what makes the most sense.

Show me where the hole is to pour the metal in when the two half moulds are together. Also most moulds have notches to line up which way to connect the 2 halfs (otherwise the die axis will be all over the shot). You tell me what makes more sense?

You are the only one who can decide what makes sense to you.

And how do you know you're not looking at a flattened half?

Like I said, the fact it's lead does not confirm or deny it's a mold, and again it's up to everyone decide for themselves, if they want to decide at all. You clearly don't think it is and that's perfectly ok. My post was only to clarify molds for some early items were lead.
