ok so im new to the forums but not to prospecting, ive been going to briceburg for a few weeks now to prospect with my wife, son and a friend of mine. we met a nice blm guy by the name of george and a few other prospectors which are not so close in age with I, one by the name of dave from LA area and one by the name of mike and wife brenda. really nice people! So if your a member i hope you read this. Im actually looking for the claim owner bill mccracken(not dave) who is the claiment in the area with a few others im sure, but im asking for your permission to prospect your land? i have been digging at the entrance to briceburg to in hopes of an invite. i drive a red ford escort just incase anyone wants to join. A few other question i have is where are there some better areas that havnt been completley tooled over? from my understanding there is a tertiary gravel in two areas one around willow and the other upstream from the suspension bridge? Has anyone found them that would like to share? im a proud owner of hibanker and was told by george the younger blm guy that as long as you have a claim or are on a claim motorized highbanking is not illegal. Is this true? if so is there anyone out there thats has a claim we can use this thing one. i have it set up so that i can dredge out of water with my own style hydroforce nozzle but limited to 1-1/2 nozzle temporarily but will be moving to 3" soon. sorry this is alot of scattered stuff.

thanks

Hello Mark

I own the claims below Bill. The rest of the canyon from the big chunks of concrete are my claims. Bills go from the big chunks to Hildies property (the house)

Bill lives in New York and may let you. He was there a week ago and may be in the area still.

I have his phone number if needed.

However the claims below Bill are off limits to prospecting. With the water so low I would be trying the Saxon creek area that drains into the merced. Big nuggets are there.

In order for you to work anyones claim in the wild and scenic corridor, you must be listed on the plans of operation the existing claims have in place. Since the paperwork is already done it would be another 2000 bond to add your name.

Thanks Rick

I sold my claims-actually gave my 1/2 to Chuck Dunn 1/2-3/4 mile up from Briceburg. He has so many bonds and related bs to work and NOW can't even drive his car, truck or bike to get there. Notices, plans, bonds blah blah eco bs. Work road side as used to be railroad bed-NOT highway side as nuttn' but fill--the railroad had marksmen on board to shoot any miner dumb enough to dig into the embankment on the RR side. Flakey black shale and crumbly contact zone in quartzy greenstones provides righteous deposits. Hiked in 3 years ago and my cement snoopy dog trail from river to road is still there. Huge area I bulldozed for YMCA camp was tore up pretty bad but no mo' cars no'mo' anyhow upriver.--John

Yes John the whole area is pretty well locked down. Charlie (nugget king) died last Feb. All the old Guard is just about Gone. New crop of wheres the gold coming in to a big surprise.

thank you rick and john, We would love to meet you fellow prospectors/ miners. Maybe pick up a few tips and tricks from you fellas. we would love to be part of the guard if its the kind of guard that im thinking of lol. my wife and i actually were in the middle of posting a claim on 49 a few years ago but noticed after we put up posts and a location notice there was all the sudden a rediculous amount of foot traffic that was never there before so we ended up not finishing. We figured permission would be the best seeing is no one likes unexpected visitors and of course its disrespectful to trespass so we try not to. what do you mean " a new crop of wheres the gold coming into a big surprise?" is saxon above or below the suspension bridge. i noticed the ferguson rock slide i beleive is the name. Is that area off limits i noticed the rounded rocks up at the top. Also rick i would love to get that phone number for you, i wish i wasnt daytripping last saturday i woulda tried tracking everyone down lol.

Yes all ya gotta do is post a claim sign and they'll show up-claimjumpers by the dozen to steal ya blind. If you try again backdate your filings at least 88 days when filed at the county as computer paper claimers have computer programs that scan constantly and STEAL YOUR NEW CLAIM by backdating their claim just prior to yours. I've talked to 100s a folks ripped by the biggest club boss that a way sic sic sic. These pics show some of what I'm trying to describe as that black, flakey slate bedrock as quite good vapor deposition between the pages like a book and fantastic nugget holder. Miss our old house by the river at Bagby downriver from Briceburg MUCH-John

we were very upset it took us atleast 7-8 hours to post our markers not to mention digging in hard ground in the dead heat of july was not the most pleasing of temps to be standing posts up. that was after spending a day like that prior to everything sampling and mapping out aces by hand. what turned me onto he merced river area is bagby John i found my first good pan(better then my previous trips) on fly away gulch, found an old shaft that had been washed full or back-filled by blm maybe. so i started doing research on the merced and found nothing except for Eagledown's stories(amazing!!) i like how it looks in the old pictures ya'll have more then modern day. But i still appreciate today's looks of course. Do you still go out looking? if so i hope we meet one day. My wife and i should be camping in there this weekend doing a little searching. Before you mentioned saxon creek.... is there any claims on it to avoid. i understand people there like to throw the claim signs in the river. where should i start looking there? the mouth where the two meet or up farther on it.
