Hi , I found a pair of these whilst metal detecting. They were in the ground a couple a feet apart. Heavy, solid and I think brass. they measure 5.25" long.

Where they were found: In a green triangle with old trees. It's near a row of frat houses. did they chuck out an old piano or cannibalize a clock?

looks like a plumbob to me, does it have a hole in the blunt end, like a place for a string?

thank ya ol' goat (sorry)

That's right a plomb. thing they use to see if stuff is straight. I wonder how they got buried. It does have a hole in the blunt end about the size of a pen point.
If it is brass (and this is open to everyone) are they worth anything for metal value. Should I hold on to 'em?

Olegoat nailed it. Yes it is a plumb bob. I have one somewhere exactly like it. It is brass, the point is steel. Its worth, cleaned up, is about 5-10 bucks. Worth more if it has a date on it.

A pair of those two feet apart says someone tied them together and flung them ninja/bolo style. Dollars to donuts thats why you found them like that.
