think it is 1/2 of a fancy brass Victorian era finger/push plate off of a set of swinging double cafe´ style doors.
Its 4.5 by 2 inches, not cut off.I soaked it in lemon juice for about 30 minutes then took a brass brush to clean off the dirt. There used to be a house here that was torn down in 1933 ,just a field remains. The area is in n.h. I've been told this might have come off a hope chest. The marks might be the year and maker.Could you get us the dimensions? Has it been cut off? Did you clean it or did it come out of the ground that color? Was there a church near by or house? Was this found in the US? What state? Elpec Brass comes to mind.
