Looks like part of an old fixture. Into the scrap brass bucket it would go over at my house.

Yea, that's not an oil can, but if it was.....into the scrap brass bucket it would go over at my house.

looks like an oiling can with the spout missing....but if not care to clue us in since you are so sure? I was thinking something like this https://images.app.goo.gl/3q6pQwwYcXD5ibiE6 was also thinking maybe part of an oil lamp. but it appears the bottom was a solid piece and wouldn't fit onto the glass/base

My first thought was an old smudge pot used for highway hazards years back. The size might be too smal though. The one shown is made by Toledo Torch.

My first thought was an old smudge pot used for highway hazards years back. The size might be too smal though. The one shown is made by Toledo Torch.

It's a 19th century skaters lamp....contained fuel and a lamp assembly screwed into the top hole. Is it threaded?

Yes, it is threaded and easily can be seen if you click on the pic and enlarge it.
