Boy, I'm sure glad that worry's over.

UPDATE ON BUTTON (SEE BELOW)

You know how you get when silver coins just seem to dry up? You begin to doubt your detector, your skills, everything! It had been MONTHS since I saw a silver coin smiling up at me. So, I was seriously beginning to think that maybe my AT-Pro was just not tuned to deep silver. Well, that worry is over now. :)

I decided that I didn't want to go stumbling over cornstalks so I chose to fall back to the old mansion for a bit yesterday. I went back over some areas that I know I'd been over before. But, I was hoping that better knowledge of the land and detector would help. It did.

I found a few odds and ends but then I got one of those semi-iffy signals that time in the cornfields has taught me that I can't justify ignoring anymore. When I pulled the plug the signal got a little more solid. I knew this was a good sign. Another knife full and it was out of the hole, with a perfect impression of where it had lain in the hole for so long. I was able to stick the knife in to measure depth.

A full 8 inches!

So I turned to the plug and after a bit, I saw this:

YAY!!!

Ya know, I like to sort of play with my expectations when I know something good has come out.
I slowwwwwly start to peel away the dirt until I get to the prize. Like opening a Christmas gift reeeaaaaalll slow. LOL

At this point, I actually didn't know what this coin was, never had one this small.

I had to look this up to be sure it really was silver! :)

Ok, now my worry was over. This coin is tiny and silver. The AT-Pro sniffed it out at 8 inches!

Then, just a couple feet over, I get another signal. The prettiest 84-86 quarter hit you ever heard.
This usually means a clad quarter on most of my other hunts.

MERC1.jpg

Not quite as deep, but still about 6-7 inches.

Nope, somehow, I just don't have that worry anymore. :)

Here's the over all for the day:

Is that a pistol ball in the middle? Has a heavy patina!

IMGA3102.JPGIMGA3103.JPG

The door knob & mason jar lid, crotal, wire frame, all came from a new section of the area that I hadn't searched before.
Shows good promise.

The knob is a bit strange. I'm not sure what it's made of, marble, wood, ??? It weighs almost a half pound
and it came out looking this way.

This is a button that shows some sort of design but I can't quite make it out.

The smaller coin at a full 8 inches down. I am impressed with my AT-Pro!

Thanks for stopping by!

HH!

The button resisted cleaning up but with a lil brute force, can at least see some details.
No backmark, just a design, thought I'd complete the share. :dontknow:

Nice silver!!!!

WTG on two nice silver. :hello2: Love the doorknob. I have a white one I eyeballed during a field hunt. Not positive what they are made of. :dontknow:

HH
p.s. Awesome pics!

Looks like you had a great day of hunting.

Nice finds .. love the 1920 Canadian "fish scale" nickel .. I found a 1906 a couple of years ago. Still amazes me that those tiny coins were in circulation. :)

Nice silvers. I have found many "fish scale" 5 cent silvers with my ATPro, it's impressive to find those tiny coins especially when they are so deep. Last summer I found an 1897 fishscale that was quite deep, and there was an old rusty nail in the hole with it...gotta love that pro mode!

What age would you put on those terra cotta door knobs? My buddy found one still attached to its door latch, and I know a house around here that has a few.

your luck sounds about like mine one away or wrong mint mark.lol you are one year off from finding one of canadas rarest coins.i found a 1920 a few years ago still have it somewhere around here.seeing yours reminded me of researching it and finding out it was one year away.still a great find they are quite small but the elusive silver coin congrats

Terra Cotta? Hmmmm, is THAT what this is!?!? I didn't even know that much, let alone how old. LOL

Thanks!
HH!

As always, terrific finds and a most amusing read!

Thanks for the response.

I wish someone would comment on the button as well though. ;) Pattern mean anything or just decorative. It seems pretty old.

HH!

Any day with a half dime, or 5 cent Silver as I would call them is a good one.

No need to doubt your machine. It's just the silver we all expect to be there often just isn't, especially the older stuff, I think people in general were more carefull with their money back then.

Great story, great pics and great finds...superb! :occasion14:
