Found this small chest yesterday in an oak tree hollow in South Carolina. Was full of mostly trash and newspaper clippings that were not legible. It has a bunch of pennies in it (only 1 wheetie 1951D) and a bunch of what I think is costume jewelry but several of them are .925 silver. 70 grams so far of .925! I am not sure about the "gold" earings, necklaces and watches yet. Havent seen any "k" stamps except .925. There is a zippo lighter and a tassle from 2001 in there also. Weird. I saw it stashed inside an oak tree base that is hollowed out in the woods.
More pics soon.

Probably a homeless persons stuff. I find little stashed like that occasionally in duffle bags, the ones I’ve found usually are chuck full of clothes, toiletries and other personal items. I leave them be.

Maybe part of a Geo-cache.That could explain the newer stuff mixed in with old:dontknow:

Sounds to me like someone’s time capsule. A graduation tassel. Newspaper clippings. All point to things that held value to someone representing a specific period of time.

Iwould have been seeing treasure but hey thats some good stuff silver and hopefully some gold great find

Cool find. I’m in SC as well.
Ever get to the coast look me up.

Cool find. I think I'd be as stoked about the chest itself as well as the contents.

Im also thinking its a Geo Cache. I have found 3 of them over the years. 2 were in hollowed out trees, and 1 was at the base under a huge fallen tree. There is usually some sort of note in there identifying it as a Geo Cache, and that you should leave an item of your own.

I'll be the devil's advocate and state that it may be stolen property hidden/discarded by a thief. Anything "name identifiable" in the mix? Sub8-)

Negative. Nothing identifiable except one phone number for a "Janice" written on a piece of paper. I called the number and it is out of service. It was a few hundred feet behind my sisters house on private land so I doubt a geocache but that is an interesting theory. I will hold on to it and keep it intact for a while never know I might eventually find the original owner and find out the story behind it.

I am actually in NC but plan on going to the coast somewhere in the Carolinas once this hurricane makes its way out of the area. :)

I'll bet that made your heart skip a beat! Probably some little kid's "special stuff" they hid away and promptly forgot about.

Cool find! Puts a mind to thinking about the who's and why's. A mystery for sure.
