I bought this a few years back for a couple bucks. I deal in wood working tools sometimes but I've never heard of this maker. It's a knapp plane about 7 1/2 " long by 3" wide. It has made in USA on the other end. It has the knob under the frog. The body and blade is steel, but the frog is cast aluminum. Weighs about 3 pounds and the varnish and finish is in great great shape.

I've asked and no one I know has seen one even a guy who deals in wood working tools for a living. I spent yesterday online and today in the books but not one word of Knapp. Does anyone know anything about it? A brief history and value would be great. Thank you everybody.

Knapp merged with Stanley Rule and Level Co. in 1857. So it has to be before the merger. The listing on ebay started at $15.00 the other info I found Shows the company Knapp turning to Stanley in 1857 so I would say you got a keeper!

Found this on Ebay..Having issues finding your items history. <img src="http://www.treasurenet.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=897829"/>

Yeah that's mine on eBay lol. eBay been giving me alot of problems lately. It won't give me my feedback from buyers. It's taking days to post my listings. Spent 3 hours on the phone last night with them and still didn't get any resolved just scripted answers lol.

Anyways, the only other one I've seen was their aluminum prototype that's extremely rare and it's valued at 30 from what the web said. I've never had this much trouble finding something in a item and I've found stuff most can't lol. Thanks for the reply and have a great night.

Lol yeah watch that boss. Your info helped I didn't know when they merged but I knew they did. I'd hate to cancel that auction I like to leave a little on the bone for the next buyer but I might be leaving a 3 course meal for this one lol. I'm waiting for a guy in Fresno to get back to me if he says what you said about a keeper it's getting yanked and ill add to my china cabinet. Thank again. Kevin

Yea yank that sucker.... I have seen people selling things before that they sell entirely to low and don't know it. My parents used to buy lunch boxes cheap at garage sales because they had a book that told their true value. One lunch box ( may have been fall guy) I cant remember exactly they bought for $4 and on ebay it went for dang near 500 since it was in such great shape and had all the components and thermos. Keep that since its over 156 years old atleast. I wish you luck!

Aluminum was seldom used before the 1940's. If there is any aluminum in it then I don't think its any older than the mid to late 40's.

Thanks for the info guy appreciate all the help. Didnt know that about the aluminum but it makes sense thinking about it. Since you can't melt aluminum that great with regular fire since it'll turn brittle you need electric to get a good melt. That was definitely. Good catch on that. Hey the 40's is still pretty old, especially for a company that's unknown. If your saying around the 40's it might had been a post war company that branched off somewhere to break up a larger company. Or a guy returning that might have gotten ahold of a Stanley blueprint while stationed in England during a air raid. Lol it's nice to dream what ifs with stuff. Kinda why I do the stuff. Thanks again, Kevin

Your plane could have been made and sold by Stanley, yet marked as a Knapp.

Stanley built planes and tools for many companies.

Just bought this beauty from a buddy with another 110 for a dollar for both! Lol the big one is another no name all it has on it is 3 below the thumb screw. Stamped blade rest and bent over in a brake. But again no maker mark lol. But pretty sure it's a Stanley 3 sweetheart. No blade though. Problay part it out or might try as a whole for ten bucks start on the bay. You guys think Stanley? Not even made in USA or nothing.
