Antique shops are the worst place to buy antiques IMO especially bottles. They know what they have and are way overpriced in most cases because of overhead expenses or possibly to take advantage of the tourists. Take your bottle and try to sell it to them and see what you get.. Keep in mind that we can only see the lip of your bottle in your pic but it appears to be whiskey.

It does look like a 3 part mold. I have a few of them packed away. What are they worth now?

Bottle hunters used to find a lot of black glass gins and rums in the mangroves along the Florida east coast shipping lanes. I guess the best place to find old stuff is near water as people used waterways as means of travel.

I want to rephrase one of my above comments about antique shops. They are a safe place to buy antiques. You will usually get what you pay for if you dont mind paying. I didnt mean not to shop at these places. What I meant was, as a treasure hunter, if you are looking for that overlooked high priced antique that you can make a great profit, it would be better to find it in the at the dump, yard sale, flea market or in the ground. But today because of TV programs such as Antiques Roadshow everyone thinks their junk is valuable. As more are becoming knowlegable, great monetary gains may be harder to find but they are still out there. This is a very nice black glass example. Im thinking $10-$20.

If you want to play it safe go to antique shops. If you think you have enough knowlege to recognize valuable items, get out to those yard sales. HH.

I find that normal bottles are on the low end of the price chain. Poison and Bitters bottles along with obscure medicine bottles tend to bring the higest prices. Pop bottles with city names and bottler company names are way overpriced in the market.
If you KNOW your relm of collecting ...then Antique Shops are a great place to shop. I find their knowledge is not as good as some of them think it is, much to my benifit...

I dont shop at pawn shops either. In South Florida, I find them to be way overpriced. I guess any proprietor can make a mistake, including antique shops, but I prefer my chances at yard sales or better yet, storage warehouse evictions. Of course whatever we find in a dump, underground or underwater is free. ;D
