Hey folks,
I was looking at some of the bones brought home from last weekend.
I have found probably a dozen of these small teeth/claws. Just wondering what they might be. I thought at first they were muskrat teeth, but the first one in my hand is still in the bone and it looks like it retracts like a claw??? Any ideas??
Must have been a good food source because there is a lot of them.
Thanks, BCI

Bci, an i.d. of rodent teeth, could be a clue to diet too. Squirrel, mice, rat. A mast dependent animal would suggest a fall harvest of nuts by natives. And a chance of a bounty of passenger pigeons. Muskrat maybe cat tail roots and use of leaves for weaving mats and other items. Beavers preferred diet in state or area a glimpse of tree type at time, plus the ecocline created by their ponding and after a fertile area. Around here river valleys were common sites, the flood areas for a richer soil and food from waters too. Soft woods and hard woods depending on forest evolution, while inland great stands of pines with paths well worn over land to other waters and forest openings and prarie areas.
One of the greater communities wintered in a river valley then migrated to shore of great lake in summer. Farther southwest another group on high ground near river made pottery, utilizing shell to temper. Looking forward to your findings!.
