Hello, I Just purchased a china plate with a King George era couple at a table playing chess. The mark on the back is a crown with an Uppercase L to the right of it. It is also numbered, it looks like, 47/1800. Any help you could give me would be greatly appreciated. I really would like to know the maker more thant its value, but value would be nice too. - Thanks :icon_thumleft:

I think your plate could be valuable. The crown mark is known as a 'Kings Crown' and is only used in Britain when there is a male on the throne. The plate is therefore at least 60 years old but I think it could be much older that that. It is not Royal Doulton or Wedgewood but might be early Crown Derby. I'll do some research and get back to you. Lovely find. DON't wash it in a dishwasher!!!

On looking into it a bit more it looks more like Dresden china. on their early pieces they tended to use a variety of crown shapes with a letter underneath to identify various makers and dates. I can't see one that exactly matches yours. If I do I'll let you know. The style of the figures in the art as well as the theme also suggest Germany but these themes were copied worldwide at the time.

it was made before 1892, because after 1892 the country of manufacture is on the back.will do some research on the markings to see if i can tell the maker.

Thank you Gods country girl. Any help I can get would be great.

It sure would be nice if it WAS valuable. lol

Someone told me it was Lefton but the mark on my plate is just not like the ones I have seen online.

can u pls post a much closer pic of back mark and a pic of the whole back

I looked up their makers mark and did not find one like mine but I will do more research. Thank you.

It is hard to tell but when I ran my finger over the makers mark it was smooth so I presume it is under the glaze. The numbers felt raised so probably added on after the glazing process.

So true, probably a reproduction but still curious as to who produced it. Thanks

Amazing Bramblefind, that is the exact mark !! I guess it must be Limoges. I will have to research their mark a little bit more. Thank you so much !
