Bobbie found a button we need some help with "better pics"

Bobbie found this button today and we need some help identifying it. The back is rusted off
We got to detect a couple of sites today as I was on 3 day weekend. Remainder of finds were
sparse for yesterday and today $10.00 in clad between us and little silver pendent, Bobbie found the gold bead. Good thing about being off on Monday only 4 more days until we detect again

Nice button. You all found more money than I did this weekend. I did make a pretty good haul on some bottles, though.

Nice button guys.

I can't help on the i.d. But it is a style I have found before. Not with the same pattern yours has to it. I do know it's a older button.

OK my 2 cents.

I think i`ts religious.

It could be pagan or not, i`m not sure.

I do see 4 areas which could be directions which the Masons, Eastern Star and Demolay use in their rituals, as in North, East, South and West.

The symbols at this site are almost the same but not quite exact.

Let me know if you find an exact ID.

Re: Bobbie found a button we need some help with "better pics"

OK, as PBK is on holiday again, I will make up some BS to help this one along. ;)

It is it the style of a late 18th century Oval Knee Buckle with the two tongues. It is also similar to the Shoe & knee buckles of the Early 18th century which were used as Jewellery.

However I believe because of the construction that this was made post 1850ish & is a civilian decorative button in the Georgian style.

And here would be an example of the breeches knee buckle that dugfinds has referenced (I think)? I found this one about a month ago.
