I got back out to the shoreline this morning for a couple hours, inspired by Steelheadwill. I started detecting a new area and after about an hour found a tight concentration of musket balls. I made quick work of the musket balls and being that I was about three miles from the car and it was looking like rain, started heading back to the car. I walked down to the low tide line and found the two bottles. On my way back up the beach I found the button which is actually the first button I've found on the entire stretch of beach.

About two miles from the car I nearly tripped on it. A third of it was above the mud and has probably sat like that for the past 300 years! My first thought when I found it was "I am not hauling that back to the car"...but of course I couldn't leave it behind. I started the long trip back to the car...with my 36 POUND CANNONBALL!!! This is the 4th cannonball from this beach and the largest so far. I was tiring quickly so I took off my sweatshirt and fashioned a sling...and dropped the frigging thing on my finger! It bled and I'm going to lose the fingernail...but it was worth it!

This cannon ball could be worth hundreds perhaps thousands of dollars. Well worth the price of 1 fingernail.

Amazing! A friggin' cannonball. This hobby never fails to impress. Great find! By the way, sorry to hear about your finger, but remember this: It's a lot less of an injury that one might otherwise incur at the end of this weapon! :tongue3:

That is exactly what I was thinking!

WOW ! 36 pounds ! That thing is awesome :hello2: A story your Kids grandkids Will be telling when others admire the shot. " Carried it 2 miles and lost a fingernal when he droped it on his hand ! " The crazy old coot ! Nice job ! And a BIG salute to you ! MaineRelic

Awesome!!
They don't come much bigger, only 42.
Looks to be pristine as is.
My surface beach finds are often in better condition than the deep ones.
The iron and brass Admiralty Kedge I discovered was partially exposed, and the exposed portion was in better condition.
You will need something strong to display that one ;D ,
It would really look good on a pedestal of some sort.

That is a fantastic relic :o
Full size congratulations and a Banner vote from me :notworthy:
