Metal Detecting
This morning I met up with HighVDI for a hunt at a ballfield in Washington PA. I came across a shallow target with a 99VDI on the ATP, I rarely get those kind of signals. I flip the plug and see this beauty looking up at me. I never seen or knew these coin knives existed. Unfortunately the corroded metal pins were barely holding it together and it came apart. According to worthpoint it's a genuine coin. The description on the worthpoint link below matches what I found.

Since it came apart I was able to put both halves of the coin together and we have a match!

Maybe one of my fellow tnet'ers can help me with these questions.

1) When were these made?
2) Is it repairable? If so, how much might it cost?

My other interesting find of the day was this old ornate piece. I think it's copper.

I find a lot of these personalized good luck tokens in Western PA.

Otherwise, a random wheatie and about $2 in clad kept me busy for the rest of the 4 hour hunt.

Good luck out there!

On second thought, I'm going to nominate this find as a BANNER!

I've never seen anything like this. I hope you can get it repaired!

Thanks! Tomorrow on my lunch break I'll visit a couple jewelry stores and see what happens. I really want to restore it and I hope it isnt too expensive. I'll post updates in the future!

Now we're metal detecting. Congrats :occasion14:

That is an awesome find! :occasion14: I have never seen anything like it.

Super cool find! Who would think of putting a knife in a coin?

Wow, that's cool! Congrats! Can't wait to see it when it's refurbished. :occasion14:

super awesome and very cool find. the vid was great too! never seen one before either.

yours appeared to be made from two coins and has two blades with a spring steel, definitely more complicated.

I was thinking the same thing, I'm pretty sure I have all the pieces. There isn't much more room inside after the pieces are set.

Ok guys, I got it restored for $40 plus tax after work today. The coin knife is made by Eloi Pernent founded in 1920 so it's likely a ballfield drop.

That's an amazing find. Funny too because I know people who pass those overload signals thinking big iron wrap around. Lol.

It was too odd of a signal at that location to pass up haha thanks for the invite on the hunt that I scored this beauty. You would've ended up finding this eventually :laughing7:

Awesome hunt, congratulations on some excellent saves!:icon_thumleft:

That is So Sweet! I thought the .06 shell knife I found was cool but it pales in comparison!

Great Job and Glad You Got It Restored!

I must have missed your .06 shell knife post, did you post it to tnet? I'm curious what that looks like.

No, I haven't posted it... I'll put it up though if you'd like to see it. I'll try and get it up tonight or tomorrow.

It's cool but nothing like your knife.
