Went back to burned-down barn on public land in Johnson County, KS, where I found the stamped knurled brass packing nut (probably from a hit & miss engine) a few months ago.
The squarish red-painted part is something I found on that trip but forgot to schlep home. Probably came off some farm machinery. I originally found it right below the surface. It's been exposed to the elements from then until now.
Today I found additional iron that didn't quite ring up as iron: A large hinge, a nameless iron rectangle, a bunch of nails, a large threaded bolt and a large spike that doesn't appear to be a railroad spike.
Also found a .22 slug.
The good news happened first. The first thing I found was a silver ring. I haven't been in the game very long. It's my first ring and first silver.
