Big, beautiful North American Placer!! Freakin' fantastic!!!

Unbelievable video of big North American gold nuggets + new finds, pics, videos added: a live thread, so please post your gold shots.
I'll add other videos or stills of big nuggety North American gold as I find them.

This video starts slow, but it's shot underground, so give it a while and then watch out that you don't have a freakin' heart attack!!

I hope you love looking at this as much as I did--every placer miner's dream come true. If you're a rookie, you'll get the fever bad watching this one. (To avoid any confusion, this is not my video, nor is it my clean-up, nor was I involved in any way--I found it by mistake after typing in a search word incorrectly [that's why I'd never found it before], but I sure do love it!!)

Almost 3,800 ounces in the last shot--fines are in the large plastic bags. 100 miles north of the Arctic Circle!

All the best,

Lanny

P.S. I posted it with my beginner's thread as well, but it's so great it deserves it's own place too.

Thanks for replying. You always do
I don't remember if I asked you before, but I had another TNeter ask me about this same thing.
It's after panning down to black sands. Below that layer both him and I had a layer of silvery powder below the black sands. It walked up just like we do for the gold. Unfortunately I didn't save any and I didn't take a pic. When I go back out I'll dig the area again and see if I can get a good clear pic. I'm sure it'd be too fine to see it in the pic but who knows. But now that makes two of us in two different locations in the state. Of course neither of us has seen it before our many pans. He did try to hit it with acetylene torch. It didn't phase it. So we were wondering if you or other geologists might know. I could PM you locations if that might help.

I follow a rule of thumb: if it's extra heavy, I assume it just might be valuable. So, in your case, I'd check out geological records for your area to see if there's any platinum present. Moreover, if there is, or if you'd just like to know for sure, send it off to have an assay, or see if your local college or university will test it for you.

All the best,

Lanny

Funny reading this after what I found yesterday. Near the beach is a fresh water stream running under the road via two culverts. I saw the county clearing the outlet side of the culverts (ocean side) with a big excavator the day before. So yesterday I went back to pan some of the "dredgings" they piled up to the side of the stream. I found no gold, a TON of black sand and 5 or 6 flakes of bright shiny (chrome like) silver flakes that acted just like gold. Is this the stuff you are talking about? I thought like you do Lanny...if it's that heavy, it might be valuable. Platinum maybe?

I didn't keep any either but easy to go back and get some.

I forgot to mention this to Garret, so I'll mention it to you as well, always test anything silvery and shiny with a magnet to make sure it's not shavings from a bucket or blade if they've been excavating. That's another rule of thumb: when you're panning, always have a magnet handy to test heavy things that show up in your pan.

With all of that black sand you found, and if you're in an area where gold has been found, I just might prospect that area a little closer as well.

All the best,

Lanny

My stuff wasn't flakes at all. It's a very fine powder. Almost like a baby powder.

As for those black sands. You might try the shake and bake to see if there's some fines in there. I'd never heard of doing this and still haven't tried it. But the gold fines could be locked in the black sands/iron and they crack open when tossed into cold water. If you do this. Of coarse make sure it's outside and vented.

I normally take my mystery items. Put them in a small jar or bucket. It's my mystery box. Lol.
My magnet got lost (the one I take to the field). It was on my retriever. So I need to get a new one or two. I've got a small one that I use that was for the fridge. I use it when cleaning the gold in the bathroom area. Ohhh does my wife get mad. I can't help but make a mess. Then again, it wouldn't be mining. It'd be cleaning. Lol

I just watched the video and that clean out was absolutely ridiculous. I don't know if this was mentioned or not, but I wished they had a reality tv show :-) I thought tony beets was the man, well I guess he still is, but I doubt he ever had clean outs like that. Super video Lanny:icon_thumleft:

Damn, holy crap that makes me want to move to Alaska!

That sure is an awful lot of gold in the video. It does make a move seem like a good idea.

Wow 100 miles north of the arctic circle, that's less than 40 miles further north than where I'll be when I head home for the summer. I wonder if the mine in the video is in the Chandalar mining district?

It sounds like you're living the true northern life!

As for the mine, I'm not sure how to find the location, but I'm sure your guess would undoubtedly be more accurate.

Thanks for dropping in, and all the best,

Lanny

Hey Oregon

Nice gold there. I swear I saw an alien face looking at me from the big nug in pic 2. Look close. Squinting eye on the right, eye socket for left, then a nose and the small mouth. Not a grey but a mr gold. Lol
