Heavy snow blankets the ground, so I hit the beach. Dug lots of clad. First good coin was this 1908 Barber half dollar, my first half dollar of this type anywhere, and my fifth half this year at this beach. Also dug two dark gray silver Washington quarters from the 40s, a Standing Liberty quarter in rough shape, and a Mercury dime in even rougher shape. While not in great condition, it was fun digging five silvers in one hunt. Found no jewelry, but got a religious medallion; a Miraculous Medal, I think. This eagle claw foot is my favorite non- coin find today, and I think is off a table leg from the late 1800s or early 1900s. I was amazed it was still clutching its glass ball after so many years of being pounded by the surf. Can't wait for the snow to melt, but at least there are the beaches. Good luck and happy hunting

Nice finds! Five silvers in one outing is tremendous! Congratulations! Thanks for sharing.

The silver is awesome but that eagle claw leg is really cool. That's some old time Gothic looking design there.

Congratulations on a great hunt. Unfortunately our beaches are snow covered still. The eagle claw looks a lot like the ones on a piano stool we have that was made in the late 1800s. It belonged to my grandfather who sold pianos at one time. Stay safe and keep swingin.

Leg from a claw ball table. I have one in my living room that was my great-grandmothers from early 1900's. Gary

Well done on the silvers and the ball/claw foot.

In my eyes thats an awsome hunt....the type of hunt I'm always looking for. The eagle claw foot is a strange unexpected find...I love it. I always like finding anything religous an I love the medallion also. Everyone likes silver coinage, so thats a win also. As for the ore lock.....well my main body of relics are marine related so I would love finding it also. Congrats lenmac65 on a great treasure hunt !!

Thanks! That piano stool must be very cool, especially being a family heirloom. I recovered these items at a saltwater beach, so the rising and falling tides clear at least two thirds of the beach area of snow. The upper part of the beach beyond the high tide mark is still covered with snow, but I prefer low tide areas any way.

Thanks for the comments. The eagle claw foot was an unexpected surprise, though I have found other home related items here before, such as a Victorian door plate, hinges, and locks. This is a saltwater beach, so I am thinking there was a home nearby at one time, and that it was perhaps wiped out in a hurricane. The oar lock was not so unexpected given where I was detecting, but I really like it due to the green color; it will soon decorate my shed. I wish the saltwater wasn't so tough on coins, but I think the Barber is actually in pretty good shape considering.

Thanks. I love family heirlooms like that.

Nothing wrong with a good pocketful of silver. It all jingles the same! I haven't found a Barber Half in a couple years. I miss those coins. Great job!

You did super well Lenmac65! Five silver coins in one hunt is damn impressive. I will say that I love the oarlock. That looks like it has some age to it. Maybe I should give beach hunting a whirl...

Thanks. The beaches are nice now, because the parking lots are mostly empty and free, and the bridge traffic is low. The silver coins I find aren't great, but I still like the feeling of rescuing little pieces of history. This half was pretty nice though. I thought the oar lock looked old too, but have no way to judge.

You are lucky to be able to hunt yet and very lucky with this last set of finds! These aren't the usual finds I expect to see from a salt water beach hunt. Well Done!

Very nice hunt! Can't complain about silver for sure:icon_thumleft:
