Wow! I just found this about an hour ago. This is my first big Barber. I have been going on short hunts after work but the sun sets so early now that as soon as I get swinging its near dark and I can't read the vdi, depth, etc... Tonight I kept on detecting "old school" with just my ears. At first I felt naked with out the visual info but then more comfortable. The location was my Grandmothers home that I have been working for the last 3-4 years as a fall back when nothing else was available. It gives and gives but slowly. The last signal of the night was big and iffy, but when pinpointed, I could hear two signals that were close but separate. Dig? Go Home? Should Dig. Probably a darn pipe. Probably a 199 vdi at 10+ inches. Wish I could see the bloody screen. Well, just one more hole. I got down 5-6" and the signal was still in the hole. I kept scooping then sweeping the hole (no pinpointer yet) and still the signal stayed in the hole. OK last scoop than I'm filling it in. Silent hole.... I quickly feel around on the top of the dirt pile and I find a big disc. Off I go running for the house and enough light to see what I have. Finding this coin in the dark made it even more memorable. PS. The fine scratches are not from Field cleaning but rather from being scooped out of the hole undetected. I'm also amazed that I didn't doink it with my digger. hh blue
