Had a great time detecting on Saturday at my Colonial spot with DD-777 (Andy) and NCJoe (aka Joe). Lot's of relics and lot's of laughs. :icon_jokercolor:
Andy dug a beautiful 1891 Seated quarter! See his post. Here is a short video, but not the actual dig:

Joe dug a signal in one spot and uncovered a large old bottle dump. His target was a neat tiny flask looking thing with a tiny glass vial inside. Perfume or medicine container? I will post his bottles once I get them cleaned up, but here is a video:

As far as my digs, I may have dug an old copper coin, that I was told could be a Farthing. Unfortunately, I can't make out anything on it even after numerous cleaning methods (thanks Don). The coin is copper, 23mm, and thinner than a dime. I dug it behind the 1790's house. Oh well, I tried. ;D

My finds for the day were:

*Possible Farthing (?)

*Rusty farm relics from days gone by. Looks like a few vintage hoes too. :icon_scratch:

*Joe dug a beautiful oval brooch that looks to be Victorian era possibly. He was nice enough to donate it to the shadowbox I will be putting together for the property owners. Thanks Joe.

*Asst'd brass items

*An arm piece from a scale. The 1790's house was used as a trading post, so perhaps this was used there?

*Pottery shards. Blue ones donated by Andy.

*A heavy brass heart shaped piece.
Any ideas what this could have been?

*Toy cars from the 1970's.

Quite a variety of goodies.
Thanks for looking & HH,
MM

Once again Doug, thanks for a great day of detecting! Sorry I got Andy off to such a great start with his SE..... Oh well, there has to be more out there.

I hope the bottles clean up good enough for the onwer to display them. I really don't mind giving back some stuff, especially when it has "history" to the actual house that's still there.

There is sooooo much stuff still back there. I post my finds after Andy sends me the bottle pictures.

I really appreciate the invite and can't wait to get together again!

I do believe we have earned the title...... Colonial Doug!

Thanks Joe.
You guys come back whenever you can. I'll buy the jerky next time. ;D
Instead of Colonial Doug, can I be called King Farthing? :icon_king:
YOU sir had a fantastic weekend!

I don't know what the brass heart shaped thing is but I would like to know too because I have 2 of them that I found in a cotton field next to a 1780 - 1800's homesite . Mine are made out of lead though .

Nice hunt and post guys! That metal bottle could be an ampule for carrying holy water. HH, Mike

I found one of those brass heartshaped things at an old fairgrounds a few years ago.
I still don't know what it is either. ???

Great post!

Great post!
Matt

Sounds like they are fairly common at the old sites. So that makes 2 in a cotton field, one at an old fairgrounds, and mine at a late 1700's site too.
With that said, I'm going to have to guess a horse related item. :icon_scratch: Wagon or carriage decoration?
Have either of you listed yours in the "what is it" section?
Would you mind posting pictures of your on my thread so we can compare them?
Thanks for the input.
