BH Discovery 3300 !

This sounds like a good machine... would probably grab one if I saw it at $112. I want to get something for the little lady. The White's is a little heavy for her. Based on what you guys are saying this 3300 might be as good if not better in some ways than the Garrett Ace 250.

Man, now I want a Bounty Hunter. I did not come to this forum to start wanting more things :-)

Well the 3300 is a good machine, I find tons of clads with it. I also use it as a backup backup. It is light, the draw back to it is I like knobs as oppossed to buttons. I think though this or a Tesoro would be a good detector choice for a female because they are so light. I have seen them on ebay for between 75 and 125.
Best of Luck

Sabertooth, I love your Cartman icon :-)

I have also been looking just now at the Tesoro uMax series and this might be a better choice for her because of the knobs (I also like knobs better than buttons too, so I could use it as a backup detector when she's not hunting w/ me). The BH seems like a good buy, but I really do like Tesoros a lot (having a Tiger Shark 8) ).

Yea, I really want a cortes or a deleon. But its hard to justify another detector I already have 5.
If I get a Tesoro it will be for my "girlfriend" Yea thats it thats the tickets.

Re: BH Discovery 3300!

I've owned 2 BH detectors and several different coils. I currently own a Tesoro Cortes. I can tell you the following:

If you buy a BH with fixed ground balance and buy different coils for it, it's best to send the detector and the coils to BH factory to be matched to get best performance. If you don't, you might be disappointed. I had a Sharpshooter II and a Time Ranger and had to send them and the extra coils I bought to BH in order to get best performance. Pinpointing is easy and very accurate with concentric coils, but harder with DD coils. I rate BH detectors as solid, but not especially deep performers. They're good coinshooters, but not recommended for serious relic hunters. Most operate at fairly low frequencies (around 6kHz), which is good for coin-sized and larger objects, but not for smaller items.

The Tesoro Cortes is a very good machine for the price. It operates at 10 kHz, which is a good all-around compromise. The display is hard to see in both bright and dim light. It's certainly easy to use and a great performer. It's a good coinshooter and a pretty good relic hunting machine.

After 3 years and having owned 4 different detectors with displays, I chucked them all and got a sound only machine that operates at 18kHz, and have never regretted it. I find that even at my age, my ears are much better than any display and I no longer have the painful "detector-neck" I used to get while out searching for goodies.

Hope this helps.

:(The bounty 3300 is still at Radio Shack for 299.00 now.
They still have them but not on sale....boo hoo

Jeffero there is a big difference between the 2200 and the 3300. The 3300 has a lot more target IDs and number display on the target ID. The 3300 also has a built in pinpointer. I used them both and found a lot more items with my 3300. I picked up a lot more trash but I think I did get just a bit deeper with my 2200 just didn't always know what I was digging.

Call the store first.Give them this catalog number-63-3018.They will quote you a price of $111.00.This is better explained in "hehehe i found a metal detector...." originally posted by chongrmry in this section of the forum (metal detecting).I'm going to get mine right now.

Just bought a 3300 for my son today $111.00 for an early B-day present.
We had a great fathers day hunting together and the detector does work decent. The box dosn't seem built to cheap if anything it is the ROD that is built cheap. But overall I had my minelab EX II out there and we kept checking target and it could hang with the big dog in my trashy lawn it found most targets I did.
One thing I got to mention is there was one target right next to a huge rusty bolt and his detedtor also picked it up? I couldn't believe it.

;) I just called Radio shack and gave them the number
that a member posted 63-3018 for the 3300 Bounty Hunter.

One store had one and another had 4 the one that had 4
is about 25 miles and the other one 12 miles so my hubby
went and got it.....the cost was $111.99.

They are going fast the clerk said...so if you still want one
call any store and if there is any around they will ship it if they
do not have it in the store.

I really want to thank all of you for talking about this and
letting others know about sale.

again thanks

;D There's only 2 left in Broward county Fl..They're both at the Broward Mall. ;D ;D Ha-Ha,that's funny.I got mine on Sunday, got home put batteries in it and erratic beeping occured.Duh,I guess I should've bought some "new" batteries instead of taking the ones out of the lonestar! Now I know why the lonestar started acting stupid last time I used it!Yes I like the battery level indicator on the 3300.Still haven't had the time to even try out the 3300 in the yard though! I'm itching to,can't wait. :)Maybe I should go get the other 2 left for resale?Hmm?

:)4 left at Radio Shack in Alton ILL.

Mine keeps beeping all the time........any suggestions
as to why...first it never beeped then beeped all over whereever
I was .

Well,I was able to get out to the beach early Sunday morning. It was short lived because of the rain though.I got to detect for a good hour in the drizzle before I had to give up because the rain was getting progressively worse. All in all i'm very pleased with this machine. For the money I believe it's the best deal on the market at the moment. So I managed to find 25 coins only 6 beer tops and 2 pull tabs,1 hotwheels '74 dodge charger #43 Richard Petty and 1 small gold pocket knife with hallmarks on it.It reads 1/20-14k G.P.,The blade reads Giesen&Forsthoff Soligen. It has scissors and a nail file and 1 blade.Very cool knife but the outside of it is a little banged up.I took pictures with my new camera, now all I have to do is figure out how to reduce the image size to get them up on here.Oh yeah, the 25 coins consisted of 4 quarters,5 dimes including a Jamaican dime as big as a quarter almost,4 nickels and 12 lincoln cents with one of those being a '58 wheatie.I am very pleased with the 3300's pinpoint mode and found it to be very accurate.I'm not so sure about the "zap" button, although it performed well on air tests, the same could not be said in the field. It did help reduce the overall amount of "junk" that I scooped. But I did scoop up 3 beer tops in a row after hitting it to zap them out.I probably need to familiarize myself with it some more to get comfortable with it. :) I'm happy!

I am enjoying mine...however still having trouble
learning the pin pointing....one man said he just uses a
screw driver and just flips out the coin...well I still have trouble
where the coin is after pinpointing...let alone fliping it out.

After getting your signal, hit pinpoint. Then very, very slowly sweep the coil over the object(in a few directions) and listen to the signal ,when it is at its loudest it should be in the center of the smaller inside ring of the coil.Mark it with a toothpick or something. You should use headphones if your not already,it helps.Hope this does too.

I've got the pinpointing down fairly well.. The only thing that I notice is that sometimes, the pinpoint area seems
to be really large, or a bunch of signals which turn out to be ghosts.. I guess it's the old rust/iron deposits or something.
But that probably happens to most detectors from what I've read.. All in all I like the detector.
