Desperate for a spot I look up the sanborn maps and check out the old Saltair Resort which was built in 1893 on the Great Salt Lake.

The first thing that I saw was an old railcar that used to haul the people from Salt Lake out to the old resort now embellished by the thugs.

I drive out as far as I dare. This area is Mud Flats and Sand.

The first thing I find is a Mini Mag Lite.

It dosent work when I found it so I took it back to the truck and put some batteries in it. Let there be light...Sweet!

After walking in about another half a mile I find whats left of the posts that Saltair used to be on.
This was a bathing resort so I was thinking of all the old rings that the swimmers lost over the years.

There was plenty of old glass everywhere which got my hopes up as well.

After 4 hours I found a bunch of old brass, a silver fork, and a maglite.

I did meet a new friend on the way out, her name is Bobbie, a little worse for wear but at least shes dressed for the occasion.

Overall it was a bust.
But I think that I will try again, There has to be one old ring out there somewhere!

Its pretty bad out there.
I can leave the transmit boot on but i have to turn the RX gain down to 5. Any more than that you cant hear yourself think.

That is some beautiful scenery. Take the beer with you. :icon_jokercolor:

I wonder how/if that salty environment accelerates corrosion of different metals.

Nice pitures, Looks like a great place to hunt. Sure there isa ring out there. keep hunting for it and you are sure to find it....Matt

Good research

......maybe someone else has detected it sometime in the past and pulled out all the goodies.

Nice story.

see if you can get any old pictures of where the crowds were on the lake, or just spend more time covering every inch :)

just go slow and dig all the signals...
did you leave your mark on that old train???
Not me! Im not artistically inclined.
It seems like such a waste of talent to be tagging stuff.
Some of that graffiti is unreal.

Theres too much area to cover, acres upon acres to cover.
They actually had to extend the rail out from the original resort because the lake is so flat that the shore will run out miles away even if the water level drops a couple of feet.
It changes every year depending on the spring run off.

Its hard to imagine all of that being out there with whats left now.

That's hilarious. Man is my dial-up slow, you saw the photo before I did!
Thats because you pay for all of the upload and dont get much download!
