hey everyone,
i thought that i was going to have a great story to tell you all. i went to a friends house to metal detect but it was a historic landmark and i thought for sure even if it had been detected that i could pull some finds from it but sadly there was nothing but a little bit of clad which leaves me to believe that it was detected 10 or 15 yrs ago and someone swept it for every target because there wasn't even any relics to show from the old house. nothing but some new clad. but better luck next time i guess.

i was soo disappointed in the finds from this place that i didn't even post my finds when i got home because of the potential this site had. it a monster sized house that was built off of and older foundation in 1898. but wile i was inside just chillin' with my buddy charlie who lives there i spotted a coin on the basement floor that was painted over and i decided to pick it off but it was covered in grey paint and i couldn't see anything on it so he let me take it home and i got out the mothers mag and aluminum polish and starter to buff it and behold it was some kind of token.

the token reads on the front side around the top of the rim, Delaware river joint toll bridge commission and around the bottom of the rim its says, Pennsylvania - New Jersey. in the center it has what i guess is the P.A. state seal and the N.J. state seal and it says established 1934. on the reverse it says across the top rim, good for one passage and on the bottome rim it says, commuter token, and in the center of that side it says BRIDGE TOKEN in all caps... well i said to myself after i cleaned this coin "at least i got one keeper from this house"

thanks for looking and if anyone knows about the token feel free to reply on it...

HH and take it easy, Lance

I hunted a historic site (house Yard) at the invite of the care taker and found nothing but clad too. The reason he invited me was to use the detector inside looking for a cache. He believe there was one due to the noises in the old house. He claims to hear foot steps and other sounds when he is alone in the house. Nothing was found inside either. This was the Hixton House in LaCrosse Wisconsin.

DELAWARE RIVER JOINT TOLL BRIDGE COMMISSION TO END TICKET/TOKEN REDEMPTION PROGRAM

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Monday, May 23, 2005
CONTACT: Pete Peterson? - (215) 893-4297

MORRISVILLE, PA - The Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission announced today that it will end the toll ticket and token redemption program effective July 1, 2005. The program has provided refunds to truckers and commuters since the inception of electronic toll collection on Commission bridges in December 2003.

Before the electronic toll collection system was implemented in December 2003, commuters could obtain discounted tokens and trucking companies could purchase toll tickets to be used as fare for bridge crossings. The redemption program was designed to refund any driver who had unusable tickets or tokens in their possession. To date, the Commission has approximately $2.5 million worth of tokens in its possession, many of which were collected from the public during the course of the redemption program. During the past year, very few requests for refunds were made, prompting the Commission's decision to curtail the redemption program.

When it was accepted as fare, a token was valued at $.10 and two tokens were required for a commuter to cross a Commission toll bridge. Toll tickets range in value from $.25 to $4.00 and have been issued at various times over the past 40 years.

"The redemption program was an effective and fair way for trucking companies and commuters to exchange outdated toll tickets and tokens for a monetary value," said Frank McCartney, Executive Director of the Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission. "The Commission has decided to end the redemption program as of July 1, 2005, a year and a half after its introduction, due to decreased usage of the program. Any driver who currently holds tokens or tickets has more than a month to exchange them at Commission district offices."

Any person in possession of Commission toll tickets or tokens that would like to request a refund can do so at the following district offices, located in Pennsylvania and New Jersey, until July 1, 2005:

New Hope-Lambertville Easton-Phillipsburg
2492 River Road Rt. 22 Bridge Plaza

thanks guys, i guess ppl just get to historic landmarks alot faster than others. but I'm not the type that likes to hunt door to door asking ppl if i can dig in their yard, but ill come across something one day...

thanks for all that info on my token Jeff. i found the information to be very helpful in identifying the coin, thanks for your time and take it easy, Lance

Hey Lance, thanks for the report. We like to hear success stories but I am glad I'm not the only one who has disappointing results at times. At least you did find a tolken.

No matter how good a new site seems I always try to keep my expectations down. Sometimes it's good sometimes not. It is hard not to get expectations up since this is why we have a metal detector.

Bob

thanks guys. your right Bob you should never get your expectations up but this was just one of those spots that i said to myself even if it had been detected there was no way they got everything but for once they actually dug every target except the iron. o well...

take it easy, Lance
