At our church camp in central PA, I was on site to help a friend do some work on his cottage. I left before the crack of dawn and arrived before he did and just didn't know what to do with myself. Of course that's not true! I grabbed the detector and headed to the woods behind his cottage, where an old spring once served the camp's water needs. This camp was started in 1894 so there's a long history of precious metal being lost. Unfortunately, most of my finds there have been copper, except for a '35 Walker in the rocks of a swimming hole. Sure enough, my first signal was a 1950 wheat, certainly not surprising. My next signal could have gone either way, wheat or silver dime (based on my long experience with my XLT). The best way to know for sure is to dig and my reward was this 1897 Barber dime. Unfortunately, it's a Philly; I see the other mints are much more valuable. Still, a nice find, and I texted a picture of it to my friend and told him to take his time! I will head back up there in the near future to help and I'll make time for more exploration! Sorry, the obverse is a little fuzzy.
