I tried a new spot over the weekend which turned out to be my best spot ever. Considering I've been detecting for more than 30 years, that's going some. This new spot started out with a draped bust large cent and although I can only see a 7 in the date, that's getting back there. The next hole I dug was probably my most exciting coin hole ever. I got a nice double tap sound and after pin pointing I dug down and popped out an 1878 Seated Quarter. Double checking the hole and getting another sound I was thrilled at the possibility of pulling out another seated quarter. It wasn't to be as the next coin out was an 1872-S seated half dollar. Didn't have much time as I had to go pick up my daughter and that was all that I found. Next day I went back in the woods and headed over to the same spot. Not far away I got a nice hit and out popped an 1873 closed date Indian cent. I thought this is great. I double checked the hole and again got another hit. Turns out to be an 1876-S seated quarter. I thought I died and went to metal detector heaven. Continuing on near a small old creek bed I get another hit. This wasn't as strong as the others, but certainly worth digging. After digging down about 6" along a slope out pops a small silver coin. My first thought was a 3 cent silver. My friend Conrad found 7 of them in the last year and I wanted one too. It was really worn and after taking a closer looked I figured it was too large for a 3 cent silver. It was a 1/2 real. It was mighty worn, but it was still a half real. After a while not finding anything I was starting to think there was just one small area with coins. I started working my way out towards the car and get another signal. Dug down and popped out an 1892 Indian. Of course I double checked the hole, but there was nothing there. I did get another signal about 3 feet away and quite deep I pulled out a button about the size of a nickel. What I can read on the back says "stand colour". Don't know much about it. Was running out of gas at this point and the back doesn't hold up as well as it used to, but I did get one more hit that turned out to be a 1902 Indian. Evidently I have to go back, but what a great weekend. After finding an 1782 2 Real the weekend before along with a high grade 1820 large cent, an 1817 large cent, old constable badge and pocket watch in a different town I didn't expect to have this kind of weekend two weeks in a row.

Congrats! One heck of a spot you found, I'd have to hunt that place so hard and so long, I'd end up getting my mail there haha!:icon_thumright:

WOW!!!!! Amazing digs <fights back jealous rage>

What a sweet selection of coinage, enjoy the site as they seem to be getting rarer each year.

Well done on researching that beauty. Hunt it to death! :)

Beautiful silvers!

Looks like that CTX 3030 is paying off for you, Congradulations on those Teriffic Finds and location

The day of a lifetime... Everyones dream :) nice diggin

I almost hate to say it, but the weekend before I found they had torn up the parking lot of an old hotel and the result was 1782 2 Real, 1817 and 1820 large cent, an old pocket watch and a constable badge that must be a hundred years old. The watch was not gold and was all rusted out and the 1817 cent was well worn, but the 2 real and 1820 cent were really nice.

My God Don--those are some really outstanding finds!! I'm in a bit of awe just looking at them. The large cent is spectacular and the Constable Badge is a really outstanding find! :notworthy:

Smart! My friend and I hit a church from the 1830's (but it's still there) and we each found 1 much newer silver dime and that's it!
Actually I found the location of a church on an 1867 map. The church has been gone for probably a century and there is no indication it was ever there other than being shown on this old map.

Heydoninbrewster,

I was just wondering if you've awakened from your dream yet? You've been having a splendid time and I can only add to other comments, Like Wow!! It is so good to hear about these things happening every now and then, it is just like someone hitting the Loto and knowing that every now and again it Does happen! Thanks for sharing and for keeping the rest of us alive and swinging!!........................63bkpkr

If you found all that in one day, I would have to nominate it for banner. Those seateds are CRISP! That is spectacular. Huge congratulations.

Thanks guys! As you all have been out there in the trenches you know what it's like after sometimes spending hours at a new spot and coming up empty. Sometimes you just hit the right spot. About 20 years ago I hit a spot, before I was advised it was private property, where I came up with 3 large cents, a seated quarter, barber quarter as well as Barber dimes, Merc's and Indians. One time at a park in the Bronx I pulled 17 coins out of one hole, the last one being a Barber half. Sometimes you just swing your loop over the right spot and come up smelling like roses. Can't happen if you're not out there looking. Good luck to all of you who responded. I've gotten so motivated by my recent finds I had metal detecting specialist business cards made up and I'm going to start knocking on doors. There is still so much treasure left in the ground.

That's all I do: knock on doors. Private property is where I find my best stuff.
